Chicken Fried Steak

 

Yields1 Serving

 

 4 Cubed Steaks
 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
 1 ½ cups Buttermilk
 2 cups Vegetable Oil
 1 tbsp Garlic Powder
 Salt
 Pepper

1

In a cast iron frying pan, bring 1 inch of oil to 350 degrees.

Salt and pepper both sides of the steaks.

In a baking dish or pie pan, season flour with garlic powder, salt and pepper.

Pour buttermilk into a shallow dish.

5

Dredge steaks on both sides in flour, then buttermilk, then back into flour.

Shake excess flour off and carefully place into the oil by putting the end closest to you first, then laying the steak in away from you.

Fry until golden brown on both sides, or about 4 minutes on each side. Do not crowd the pan.

8

Remove to a plate lined with paper towels.

9

Serve with mashed potatoes and white gravy

 2 lbs Fresh Okra
 1 cup All-Purpose Flour
 ½ cup Yellow Corn Meal
 2 cups Whole Milk
 2 cups Vegetable Oil
 1 tbsp Lemon Juice
 Salt
 Pepper

In a cast iron frying pan, bring oil to 350 degrees.

In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and corn meal.

Mix well and season with salt and pepper.

4

Cut okra to 1/2 “ pieces.

5

In a large mixing bowl, combine the milk and lemon juice and let it rest for three minutes.

Place cut okra in the milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.

Drain the okra and place into the flour mixture tossing to coat evenly.

Fry in batches to a golden brown. This should take about 5-7 minutes. Do not crowd the pan.
